EMPORIA, Kan. –
Pete Jurich's RBI single in the top of the 10th gave Truman a 5-4 win against #30 Emporia State in the opening game of Sunday's doubleheader however ESU scored eight times in the first three innings of game two to win 8-0. The Bulldogs will be in action on Tuesday at Lincoln University for an MIAA doubleheader.

Pitchers
Paul McMahon and
Austin Olendorff were roughed up in the first three innings as ESU scored eight times on seven hits to take the nightcap 8-0. Joe Kornbrust hit a three-run homer in the first and Jordan Slade added a two-run single in the four-run third for the Hornets.
Weston Lewis won 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs with a triple in the top of the third.

Truman 5, Emporia State 4 (10 Innings)
Jerod Hahn made ESU pay for hitting him in the top of the 10th inning as he stole second and came in with the winning run on a two-out RBI single by
Pete Jurich to give the Bulldogs a win over a ranked opponent.
Daniel Jewett got things going for Truman with an RBI triple to plate
Paul Trenhaile in the fourth and came in on a sac fly by Hahn. A balk brought home
Zak Larkin in the fifth for a 3-1 lead but ESU scored twice in the bottom of the fifth to even things up. Larkin squeezed in
Blake Marino for a 4-3 lead in the sixth.
Chris Allard was summoned for the seventh after
Bret Gerstner gave Truman six solid innings but walked and hit the first two batters in the final scheduled inning. A sac bunt and a pair of groundouts tied the game at four and the two teams played their second straight extra inning affair.
Tim Lee (1-1) pitched an inning and two-thirds to get the win in relief for the Bulldogs.

Emporia State 1, Truman 0 (10 Innings)
Logan Siegler was masterful as he allowed no runs, five hits with just one coming after the fourth inning but the offense could not push across a run in regulation. Emporia would score the game winner on an attempted squeeze play in the bottom of the 10th when the pitch by
Tim Lee went wild allowing Joe Kornburst to come in for the winning run. Kornburst was running on the play and it was ruled a stolen base. Kornburst led off the inning with a single off of Lee then stole second, was bunted over to third before coming in. Truman's best chance came in the eighth as Jerod Hahn and
Blake Marino led off the inning with singles,
Adam Manzer fouled out and
Weston Lewis lined out into center.
Zak Larkin struck out to leave the runners at the corners. Truman out hit the Hornets 10-6 with
Devon Myers, Hahn and Marino collecting two apiece.

Emporia State 12, Truman 1
A rough start for Truman with four errors leading to five runs in the first two innings and a seven-run sixth gave the Hornets a 12-1 win in the opener. Emporia scored two runs in the first aided by three fielding errors and three more in the second with a pair of doubles and another error. The Bulldogs got a run back in the top of the second as
Daniel Jewett singled, stole second and came in on Jerod Hahn's RBI single through the right side. Emporia sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth with seven getting hits to take control of game one. Brandon Faulkner (4-0) allowed four hits and struck out five for ESU while
Tyler Stefan (0-5) took the loss for Truman.
Series Preview:
The Truman Baseball team will play their next six games away from Kirksville starting on Friday as they travel to Emporia State University for a four-game series and then will play a doubleheader against Lincoln University next Tuesday.
The Bulldog pitching was solid but offense lack a punch in dropping three of four to Washburn University last weekend. Bret Gerstner tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout of the Ichabods for Truman only win during the series and overall the Bulldog staff posted a 2.81 ERA allowing just 10 runs in the four games.
Daniel Jewett (.385) and Jarod Hahn (.300) were the only highlights offensively for the 'Dogs who hit .227 as a team with just one extra base hit (a double by Jewett). Game scores for the series were 1-0, 5-2 Washburn, 3-0 Truman and the finale fell 4-3 in favor of the Ichabods.
Truman will be looking to knock ESU out of the ABCA top 30 as the Hornets are 30th in Division II this week and have been in the poll for 41 straight. Emporia (11-6; 7-5 MIAA) are the MIAA's top offensive team with a .359 batting average. Five players hit near or above .400 for the Hornets with Joe Kornbrust leading the way with a .433 mark and five home runs.
The Hornets are averaging over eight runs a game but their pitching staff has given up nearly six a contest. Brandon Faulkner leads the staff with a 4.00 ERA while Derek Brooks is 4-0 with a 4.13 ERA.
Emporia split a four-game series with Pittsburg State last weekend at home. The Gorillas took game one 23-10 but was shutout 6-0 in game two. Pitt won game three 9-5 before ESU took the finale 15-2.

In last seasons' series, Truman hit .225 with Kenny Swanson leading the way with a .500 average going 4-for-8 with a pair of RBIs. Steven Rose hit .333 with a double and two runs scored. Ryan Trimble pitched eight solid innings, allowing just one earned run but was a hard-luck loser in the series opener falling 2-0. Truman led 6-3 in the final through four innings but five unanswered runs by the Hornets gave ESU the sweep 8-6. Andy Cotton, Jacob White and Joe Kornburst all hit .500 for the Hornets.
Rose is hitting .306 in his career against Emporia State. He has 11 hits, six runs scored, one double, a triple and three runs batted in.
Truman vs. Lincoln:
The Bulldogs will begin their four-game series, split between a home and home doubleheader, with Lincoln University on Tuesday in Jefferson City.
Lincoln took the first three games of the series before the Bulldogs snatched the finale 6-2. The Blue Tigers were red hot at the plate in the four games played last season by hitting .401 as a team with 16 extra base hits, including six home runs. James Johndrow hit an astounding .714 against the Bulldogs last season going 10-of-14 with nine RBIs and hit for the cycle during the series.
Seniors Luke Crader (.571) and Kody Stricklin (.333) led Truman against the Blue Tigers as the Bulldogs hit .261.
Up Next:
The Bulldogs will kick off a 10-game home stand beginning on March 30 against Northwest Missouri State University. Truman will host the green Bearcats for four, followed by four against the purple Bearcats of Southwest Baptist and the final two games on the Lincoln set on April 10.
