Women's Basketball Adds Four Following November Signing Period

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman Women's Basketball Coach Amy Eagan has signed four players during the November signing period. They are Sam Andrews (Huntley, Ill.), Brooke Bailey (Dixon, Ill.) , Kennedy Martin (Edwardsville, Ill.) and Rachel Steinhoff (New Haven, Mo.).

"We are extremely excited with our first recruiting class and to have Kennedy, Rachel, Brooke, and Sam joining our family here at Truman," said Coach Eagan. "All four of them value education, family, and hard work, which make them great fits to our program and philosophy.  We have signed four kids that we feel will be good replacements for what we will be losing upon graduation of Nicole (Gloor), Amy (Briggs), and Bianca (Szafarowicz).

Sam Andrews – 6-0 Forward
Huntley, Ill. (Huntley High School)

Andrews was instrumental in leading the Huntley Red Raiders to a fourth place finish in Illinois Class 4A as a junior. She averaged 15.7 points per game and was the Northwest Herald Player of the Year. Andrews was named to the third-team all-state by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association and was an honorable mention all-state by the associated press. She was voted all-Fox Valley Conference by league coaches as she led the Red Raiders to a 26-8 overall record and a conference title.

Head Coach Amy Eagan on Andrews: "Sam has a work ethic that will challenge her teammates every day. She will do whatever she can to succeed and to help her team win.  With this drive, she has helped build the Huntley program. Last year marked the most successful season in school history with a fourth place finish in the state tournament. She can shoot the three, pull up off the dribble or post up. We are excited for what Sam will bring to our program!"

Brooke Bailey – 5-6 Guard
Dixon, Ill. (Dixon High School)

Bailey has already scored over 1,000 points through just three seasons at Dixon. She averaged 17.5 as a junior with 3.1 assists and 3.2 steals per game while being named the NIB West most valuable player and all-conference honors. Bailey averaged 13.2 points as a sophomore while being named first team all-area and was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection.  She is also a member of the school's cross country team and has been a two-time state qualifier and was named honorable mention all-conference the past three years for the Duchesses' softball team leading the team during her junior year in batting average, stolen bases and extra base hits.

Head Coach Amy Eagan on Bailey: "We feel like we got a steal signing Brooke in the early period. She missed a lot of summer recruiting because of an ankle injury. Brooke can do it all from being the team leader, to scoring, or to making something happen defensively. She is extremely hard working and one of the biggest competitors I have seen. She strives to win everything she does. We are excited for the impact Brooke will have in our program!"

Kennedy Martin - 5-10 Forward
Edwardsville, Ill. (Edwardsville High School)

Martin came off the bench and averaged 3.7 points per game last season as the Tigers went 31-1 in Illinois' largest class (4A) last season. She will be looked upon to be a key member this season as the Tigers were ranked fifth in the Associated Press preseason Illinois basketball rankings.

Head Coach Amy Eagan on Martin: "Kennedy is a great athlete with the ability to shoot the three, get to the rim, or post up.  This, along with her strength, competitiveness and work ethic should make her a tough matchup for opponents. Kennedy comes from a great high school program. She understands what it takes to be successful and is willing to do whatever she can for her team. We are excited for the impact Kennedy will have in our program!"

Rachel Steinhoff – 5-7 Guard
New Haven, Mo. (New Haven High School)

Steinhoff averaged 12.7 points and 3.6 assists as a junior leading the Shamrocks to their second straight second place finish in the Missouri Class 2 championship tournament. Steinhoff scored 26 points in the title game. She is a two-time all-state selection by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association and by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. Steinhoff has already surpassed 1,000 career points and has also earned multiple all-conference, all-district and academic all-conference honors. Steinhoff earned similar recognitions as a member of the Shamrock Volleyball program.

Head Coach Amy Eagan on Steinhoff: "Rachel is a natural point guard with a great basketball mind. She has the ability to get to the rim or stroke it from the outside. She demands a lot out of herself and is a very good leader with a drive to compete and win. She has guided her high school team to the state championship game the past two years. We are excited for what Rachel will bring to our program!"
