Jackson Named GLVC Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - - Truman State University men's basketball senior guard Seth Jackson was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Athlete of the Week on Monday after leading the Bulldogs to their third and fourth consecutive victories last week.

Jackson (St. Louis, Mo.; CBC) averaged 28.0 points per game and shot 61.3% (19-for-31) from the field during two Truman wins last Thursday (Dec. 4) and Saturday (Dec. 6). He went 2-for-5 from three-point range and hit 16-of-20 (80%) free throws while averaging 24.0 minutes per game.

On Dec. 4, in a 109-44 Truman victory against Lincoln Christian (Ill.), Jackson played just 17 minutes but poured in 23 points on 6-of-7 shooting. He hit two three-pointers and added a 9-for-10 clip from the free throw line in

what was the largest margin of victory by any Great Lakes Valley Conference team against an opponent this season. Jackson scored 17 points in 10 minutes of action in the first half before adding six points in the second half against the Red Lions.

Then, on Dec. 6, in a 91-76 Bulldog win against Quincy (Ill.) in the team's GLVC opener, Jackson scored a career-high 33 points – shooting 13-of-24 from the floor while adding three rebounds, two blocks and a steal. He scored 20 points in the first half – including a coast-to-coast lay-up as time expired to send Truman into the break with a 38-36 lead. He added 13 more points in the second half to help the Bulldogs pull away and kick off GLVC action at 1-0.

For the week, he averaged 28.0 points per game, 2.0 rebounds per game, 1.5 steals per game, 1.0 blocks per game, and 0.5 assists per game.

Jackson has now topped the 20-point mark four times this season and has set or matched a new career-high four times. He is the GLVC leader offensively at 23.7 ppg, while also ranking 14th in the league in field goal percentage.

This is the first time he has earned the conference's weekly award, with his honor marking the third time a Bulldog has picked up the accolade after Mike Carlson (twice) and current senior guard Reed Mells did so in 2013-14.

Winners of four straight under the direction of first-year head coach Chris Foster, the Bulldogs (5-2, 1-0 GLVC) return to action this Saturday (Dec. 13) against Central Christian (Mo.) at 6 p.m. in Pershing Arena.
