Henze Named NFCA National Pitcher of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - Truman State University softball sophomore pitcher Kindra Henze was named the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association's Pitcher of the Week on Wednesday afternoon, recognizing her efforts during a five-win week in the circle.

Henze helped guide Truman to an unbeaten week over March 10-16 by registering a perfect 5-0 mark from the circle with a 0.00 ERA and 32 strikeouts over 25 innings of work. The 6-1 right-hander christened her week by twirling a complete-game, two-hit shutout over Illinois Springfield (8-0 in 5 inn.) that required just 64 total pitches. She followed that performance up with another two-hit blanking and eight strikeouts as the Bulldogs blasted former MIAA rival Lincoln, 13-0 (5 inn.).

As part of a combined eight scoreless innings during a doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin-Parkside, the Palmyra, Mo., native was summoned into the contest in relief during the bottom of the seventh inning of game two to coerce an inning-ending groundball, forcing extra frames in a contest that Truman would eventually win 7-5 in nine frames. Her final outing was a seven-inning complete game shutout of Lewis, in which she gave up just three hits and one walk while striking out seven.

She currently possesses a 9-1 overall record with a miniscule 0.45 ERA, seven solo shutouts and 67 strikeouts over 62.2 innings.

"Kindra has done a very good job focusing on her strengths and using them to compete on the mound," head coach Erin Brown said. "I'm pleased she has been recognized for her performances last week."

The Bulldogs, currently riding a 14-game winning streak, take a 16-3 overall (8-0 GLVC) record on the road this weekend to Maryville (Saturday) and No. 13 Missouri-St. Louis (Sunday). Truman received 26 votes in this week's NFCA top-25 coaches' poll, checking in two spots outside the national listing.
