CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - - The Truman swimming teams put forth another strong set of performances at the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference championships on Thursday, as the Bulldogs broke four more school records and added 10 more NCAA A- or B-cuts during two day action.

The Bulldog women are sitting a solid second place, leading third-place Indianapolis by more than 140 points, as Truman has accumulated 419 total points. The Drury women have 497 points to sit in first-place, while the Missouri S&T men hold a 26-point lead on DU, with Truman holding down fifth-place with 214 points.

Truman saw school records fall in the men's 400 IM (Will Shanel), the women's 100 fly (Evyn Spencer), the men's 200 free (Sam Heveroh), and the women's 200 free relay. The 200 free relay opened the night with a bang, as a record dating back to 2003 fell by the wayside when Spencer, Jamie Fitzpatrick, Alison Strickler, and Nikki Sisson combined to post a time of 1:32.82 – not only good for first-place and an NCAA B-cut, but a new Truman and GLVC record. The men's 200 free relay also added an NCAA B-cut with its fifth-place finish at 1:22.63, as Neil Girmus, Heveroh, George Dowdy, and Tim Senholtz linked together.

The Bulldog women scored five places in the top-13 of the women's 400 IM, before Shanel stole the show in the men's race. After posting a nearly nine-second win in the prelims, he bested that time by nearly four more full seconds – touching the wall with an NCAA A-cut time of 3:48.56 that set a new school and GLVC record. Andrew Smith also set a B-cut in the event, hitting at 4:02.35 in the prelim before a 4:02.53 finish in the finals garnered fifth-place honors.

Spencer then made her presence known for the second straight night, as she backed up a school and conference record 54.54 in the prelims of the 100 fly with a second-place time of 54.83 in the finals for a B-cut. Hannah Nicks (56.78) finished fourth and added a B-cut, while three other Bulldog ladies finished in the 9th – 13th range.

Truman then scored four times in the women's 200 free, highlighted by Nikki Sisson's mark of 1:50.81 in the finals – good for second place – and Emma Barnett's time of 1:52.88 which landed her in sixth. Both were B-cuts.

Heveroh, after setting a new school record in the men's 200 free during the prelims with a 1:39.18 time, then topped it with a 1:38.90 mark in the finals, finishing fourth and picking up 15 team points with a B-cut.

Finally, in the 400 medley relay, the Truman women – consisting of Grace Fodor, Ally Neumann, Hannah Nicks, and Jamie Fitzpatrick – placed second with a B-cut time of 3:50.61.

Day three of the GLVC Championships begins Friday with preliminaries of the 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast, and 200 fly at 9:30 a.m. The finals will once again start at 5 p.m., capped with the 800 free relay race.
