NCAA Regional Rankings

KIRKSVILLE - -
The Truman State University softball team was ranked seventh in the first official set of NCAA Div. II regional rankings, released Wednesday afternoon by the national selection committee.

The Bulldogs, who are 25-11 overall (24-11 NCAA Div. II / 23-8 NCAA Midwest region), are one of five Great Lakes Valley Conference teams listed in the top-seven. Indianapolis (No. 1), Missouri-St. Louis (No. 2), Southern Indiana (No. 5), and Maryville (No. 6) join Truman as GLVC representatives, while Wayne (Mich.) State (No. 3), Grand Valley (Mich.) State (No. 4), Ferris (Mich.) State (No. 8), and Hillsdale (Mich.) (No. 9) represent the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn. / No. 10) is the lone representative from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference currently in the top-10.

The NCAA Regional Rankings are the only official rankings that determine the 64-team NCAA Div. II softball tournament field. The top-eight teams from each region are selected for the NCAA Div. II national tournament, with the GLVC, GLIAC, and GMAC tournament champions receiving automatic bids into the NCAA Div. II national tournament.

Rankings will be updated each of the next two Wednesdays (April 20 and April 27) before the final selection show on Monday, May 2, following conference tournament weekend.

Truman closes the home portion of its 2016 regular season this Saturday and Sunday, when the Bulldogs host Southern Indiana (Sat/ 12 p.m.) and Bellarmine (Sun/ 12 p.m.) in GLVC doubleheader action.
