RECAP: Truman Falls In GLVC Quarters 1-0 To Maryville

Box Score

ST. LOUIS – A penalty kick goal by Maryville's Allison Verville held up as the lone score in Truman's 1-0 loss to Saints in the quarterfinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference soccer tournament on Sunday.

The Bulldogs see their season come to an end with a 6-6-5 overall record while Maryville will advance to play McKendree on Friday in the semifinals. The Saints move on with a 9-5-3 mark.

Maryville grabbed possession of a ball following a Truman goal kick. One pass sprung Alex Johnson free with only a Truman defender between her and the goal. After making a move, Johnson was disrupted just enough to draw the penalty. Verville took the kick and beat Katie Mattingly on her right side for the goal with under 12 minutes showing in the first half.

Truman had three corners in the half but registered one shot, not on goal. In the second, the Bulldogs upped their shots to six with one coming on goal. Kelsey Murphy lofted a shot from around 22 yards out that was grabbed in the air by Alison Riddle.

Laura Ney and Lisa Bolskar had headers that missed the mark later in the half. Truman's last offensive push was whistled as offsides.

Maryville posted 11 total shots with seven on goal. Mattingly made six saves as she concluded her Truman career with the second most minutes played in the Bulldog net and second most shutouts (41) in school history.
