Bulldogs Softball Park, located just south of Stokes Stadium and west of Campbell Apartments, serves as the home field for Truman State University softball.
The facility has been the Bulldogs’ home since its construction in 1972 and has continued to evolve through a series of renovations designed to improve the student-athlete experience, game day operations and fan amenities.
The softball field was originally built with seating for approximately 200 spectators, with additional seating available when needed. Over the years, the park has remained one of the primary outdoor competition venues in the Bulldog Athletics complex.
In 1983, the field underwent major renovations that included professional leveling, the installation of a new backstop and fencing, and the addition of new dugouts. Permanent dugouts were later constructed in the summer of 2000, giving teams improved field visibility and a more functional game day setup.
Additional facility upgrades followed in the fall of 2007 with the installation of a new mesh backstop and an outfield fence with slats to better enclose the facility. In 2009, new rock was laid behind home plate to level the spectator seating area, and softball-specific hitting cages were added along the first-base line.
A major game day operations upgrade came in 2013 with the addition of a fully electronic Daktronics scoreboard, which included inning-by-inning scoring capabilities. That same year, the facility added its first permanent press box behind home plate, giving sports information staff and game day personnel a weather-protected area to manage statistics, public address, live coverage and other event operations.
Ahead of the 2023 season, Bulldogs Softball Park underwent one of the most significant transformations in its history when the entire playing surface was converted to artificial turf. The project, funded through the Student Athletic Fee, modernized the facility, improved durability and helped create a more consistent playing surface throughout the season. A new outfield fence was also installed around the perimeter of the field as part of the project.
In 2025, a permanent bullpen area was constructed beyond the left-centerfield wall, giving the program a dedicated space for pitchers to warm up during practices and games.
The facility continued to improve its technology infrastructure in 2026 with the installation of a permanent camera behind home plate, enhancing the live broadcast product while also giving the coaching staff additional video resources for game and practice film breakdown. A hardwired POE switch and wireless access were also introduced during the 2026 season to support the field’s growing broadcast and technology needs.
A permanent three-camera system was completed in the summer of 2026, expanding the facility’s camera capabilities to include the home plate view along with cameras mounted on each dugout and pointed back into the field of play. The upgrade further strengthened the Bulldogs’ live broadcast capabilities and gave the softball program a more complete video setup for performance review, player development and fan engagement.
Today, Bulldogs Softball Park combines the history of a long-standing campus facility with modern playing, broadcast and training enhancements that support Truman State softball’s continued growth.
