AMES, Iowa – Derek Atwood, Joey Walls and Jennifer Zweifel paced the Truman track and field teams this weekend at the Iowa State Open in Ames.
Zweifel once again improved on his provisional mark in the triple jump with a third place finish at 39-02.50. Zweifel moved up to fourth in Division II in the event.
Dimonique McGruder finished sixth in the shot put with a mark of 41-01.50 while Anne Ratermann was seventh in the 800 meter run (2:19.93) and Katie Hirsch placed 9th in the 1000 meter run (3:11.64).
Derek Atwood continued his strong senior season with a second in the shot put with a mark of 51-07.00.
Joey Walls finished eighth in the mile at 4:21.13 and took 13th in the 1000 meter run, crossing in 2:32.61.
Ryan Peterson broke 50 seconds for the first time in his career in the 400 meter dash as he ran 49.88 which was good for 11th.
The team is scheduled to compete at the Wartburg (Iowa) Pentathlon next Saturday.
Friday's Results
AMES, Iowa – Jennifer Zweifel set a season-best and NCAA provisional mark in the long jump and three men turned in personal best in the first day of the Iowa State Open on Friday in Ames. The team will continue the meet tomorrow.
Zweifel out jumped 24 other competitors in the long jump with a leap of 18-07.25, which bettered her earlier season mark and moved her into a tie for seventh among Division II long jumpers.
Karen Grauel finished second in the seeded 5000 meter run with a time of 18:01.82 while Cindy Grauel placed sixth in 18:19.81. Lisa Kucharski tied her season best mark in the pole vault going 10-06.00.
Rachel McCarroll was fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 52-06.00.
Turning to the men, Michael Dial had the highest individual finish in day one with a fourth in the non-seeded 5000 meter run. Dial ran a personal best 15:28.74.
Ryan Peterson also ran a best time in the 200 with a 22.80 time and Derek Atwood bettered mark in the weight throw by two feet as his throw went 50-05.50, good for ninth.
