Ryan Maus Advances to NCAA Nationals

Day Two Brackets
EDMOND, Okla. - - Sophomore wrestler Ryan Maus is headed to the national tournament for the second time in two seasons after finishing second in his weight class at the Super Region Two tournament in Edmond, Okla.., on Sunday afternoon. Devon Fenstermaker and Alex Maus also competed on the final day; however, both fell short of qualifying for nationals.

Ryan Maus, the nation's No. 3 wrestler at the 149-lb weight class, won his semifinal match against Ashland University's Marc Hoff 2-1 to guarantee a spot as one of the top-four heading into the championship against Central Oklahoma's Ky Corley. Corley, though, picked up a 2-1 decision to win the regional title. Maus, however, still advances to nationals, where he went 1-2 last season as a freshman.

Devon Fenstermaker, at 157, found himself in a challenge match for true fourth after splitting his first two matches in the wrestleback round on Sunday. He faced Ashland University's Dan Genetin but was pinned in 24 seconds to finish fifth in his weight class.

Alex Maus, at 141, dropped back-to-back decisions in his wrestleback matches, finishing in sixth-place.

Ryan Maus now advances to the NCAA Div. II national tournament on March 9-10 in Pueblo, Colo., at Colorado State University-Pueblo. The tournament site is located here
