Nebraska-Kearney Sweeps Truman In Tennis

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – In a key regional men's tennis match-up, the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers defeated the Truman Bulldogs 6-3 on Friday afternoon in Kirksville. The Loper women downed the Bulldog women 8-1. The women will embark on a road trip to Central Oklahoma and Northeastern Oklahoma State this weekend.
 
The Lopers came into the match sixth in the first set of regional rankings while the Bulldogs were fifth. UNK took control of the dual by sweeping through the doubles matches 3-0. The closest match came at number one as Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith fell 8-5 to Yeswanth Nadilla and John Steinke.
 
The Bulldogs took three of the five singles matches with Smith winning 7-5, 6-3 at number two, Joe Murphy-Baum taking a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) victory at number three and Adam King winning in straight sets at number four.
 
The men fall to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the MIAA while the Lopers move to 13-7 and 1-3 in the conference.
 
The Truman women took one of the three doubles matches to start their dual. Kelsey Porter and Lauren Higgins prevailed 9-8 (7-3) at number three while Jess Gennuso and Tess Severin were defeated in a marathon match at number tow 9-8 (15-13).
 
UNK rode the momentum of that number two doubles win to take all six singles matches in straight sets.
 
The Truman women fall to 4-4 on the season and 1-4 in the conference while the UNK squad improves to 15-5 and 4-4 in the league.
