Bulldog Baseball Earns First NCAA Tournament Berth

INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in program history, the Truman Baseball team earned a spot into the 48-team NCAA Division II National Championship Baseball Tournament. The fourth-seeded Bulldogs will play on Thursday against the third-seeded William Jewell (Mo.) at 7 p.m.

The Bulldogs (31-20) and the Cardinals (37-17) split the four games they played during the regular season in Liberty. William Jewell won 4-3 and 5-4 while Truman won 6-5 and 6-4. The two teams did not play each other at the GLVC Postseason Tournament.

The championship field was announced the NCAA Baseball National Committee on Sunday night. The Midwest region shapes up with top-seeded Quincy facing six-seeded Ashland, second seed and Great Lakes Intercollegiate champion Grand Valley (Mich.) State will square off against third seed and Great Lakes Valley Conference champion Drury (Mo.).

The site of the tournament will be at the Lou Brock Sports Complex on the campus of Lindenwood (Mo.) University in St. Charles with Quincy serving as the host school.

Drury and Grand Valley State will open the tournament at 11 a.m. followed by the Quincy/Ashland game at 3 p.m. A win by the Bulldogs will send them into a game against the winner of the Drury/Grand Valley State game at 7 p.m. on Friday, a loss and they will face the winner of the Quincy/Ashland tilt at 3 p.m. on Friday. The regional championship game and a spot in the Division II World Series in Cary, North Carolina, is scheduled for Sunday at noon.
