CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. - - The Truman State University women's swimming team finds itself within striking distance of first place, while the Bulldog men jumped one spot to fourth on a productive third day of competition at the 2016 Great Lakes Valley Conference Swimming & Diving championships on Friday.

The Bulldogs picked up three new school records and big performances in a handful of races to make their moves up the standings, as the Truman women have 667.5 points heading into Saturday – 52.5 points behind front-runner Drury. The men, meanwhile, flipped places with Lewis on the men's chart, now sitting with 324 points to Lewis' 298.

Truman made a splash to start the night in the 500 free, as the Bulldog women scored six of the top 16 positions and five total B-cuts, including third, fourth, fifth, and sixth place marks. Then, on the men's side, JT Thayer added a B-cut of his own with a seventh place time of 4:35.51.

After setting a new school record in the 100 back prelims, Evyn Spencer out-did herself in the finals by taking the top time with a second broken record of the day in the event – touching at 54.95. Truman also picked up the Nos. 2, 3, and 5 spots – each worthy of a B-cut – as Alison Strickler also broke the previous school-record, only to be bested by Spencer on the same day.

Two men also etched new times onto the record boards, as Neil Girmus came through with a 54.91 school record in the finals of the 100 breast. Will Shanel set both a new program and conference record with his finals time of 1:47.27 in the 200 fly, capturing another conference title and a B-cut.

The night was capped by two strong finishes by Bulldog relay teams in the 800 free relay, as the women started the festivities with a first-place time of 7:29.26. The quartet of Spencer, Jasmine Roghair, Emma Barnett, and Nikki Sisson set a new B-cut standard with the finish.

Then, one event later, the Truman men came through with their best relay finish of the championships thus far, finishing third with a school-record time of 6:40.78. The B-cut was hit by Sam Heveroh, Girmus, Shanel, and Alec Morgan.

The final day of the GLVC Championships begins Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with preliminaries of the 100 free, 200 back, and 200 breast. The 1650 free heats will start at 1:45 p.m., with the evening finals set to start at 4:30 p.m. with the senior salute.
