SPRINGFIELD, Ill.   – A five minute scoring drought after the Truman Women's Basketball team took a one-point lead led to a tough 72-57 loss at the hands of the University of Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon on the road. Courtney Strait led the Bulldogs with 18 points.

Allison Wiese connected from three at the 6:33 mark to give Truman a 55-54 lead but out of the ensuing timeout, the Prairie Stars would score 18 straight points to stun the Bulldogs. Makeba Elliott scored six in-a-row for UIS to give them a nine-point lead and Jessica Warren knocked down five straight to put the game away in the final minute.

Truman could not get the offense going, making 32% of their field goal attempts (21-of-64) and 29% from long range (8-of-27). The team was even an uncharacteristic 46% from the foul line, only connecting on seven of 15 tries.

The Bulldogs fell behind 10-2 at the start but Strait dialed from three twice and Allie Norton followed to give Truman their first lead of the game at 15-10.  Truman led by five but UIS, winless in the conference to date, kept the Bulldogs from getting any separation.

Truman led by two at half but Jameeshia Armstrong was the story for the Prairie Stars in the second. Armstrong scored 11 of her game-high 16 in the final 20 minutes and USI built up a seven-point lead at 48-41 with 12:24 remaining.

Strait made two more threes during the Bulldogs 14-6 push to take the lead at 55-54 but that is when things went south. Truman missed their next nine straight shots and finished the game 1-of-14 while UIS was the complete opposite hitting seven of their final nine attempts.

Strait (18) and Norton (11) finished in double-figures for the Bulldogs while five players for UIS tallied double-digits in Armstrong (16), Elliott (11), Shelbi Patterson (11) and Syera Cunningham (10). The Prairie Stars shot 52% for the game, 42% from three and 70% from the line while winning the boards 40 to 36.

Truman returns to action on Thursday on the road against the University of Missouri-St. Louis at 5:30 p.m.
