KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Truman State University softball team made it look easy at home on Friday afternoon in a doubleheader sweep of Saint Joseph's thanks to scores of 12-0 in five innings and 5-0 in the nightcap. This season at Truman Softball Park, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 114-36 while collecting a record of 14-4.
With those two wins, Truman improves to 35-19 overall (18-10 in the GLVC) and those 35 victories are the most since the 2014 squad put up 43 of them and was two away from reaching the NCAA Super Regionals. On the other side, Saint Joseph's falls to 13-34 on the year and 6-22 in league play. Friday,
Ashley Murphy and
Haley Wells each had three hits while
Christa Reisinger and
Riley Cook tallied two apiece. In the second game, Reisinger was held without a hit for just the 17th time in 103 career games (16.5 percent).
In the first game, the Bulldogs brought in all of their 12 runs in two innings including three in the bottom of the first and nine more in the home half of the third. In the first, all three touched home thanks to Murphy's double down the left field line. Two frames later in the third,
Jamie Fowle had an RBI groundout, Cook singled in
Valerie Schmidt, Reisinger crushed a three-run home run (fourth of the season),
Alyssa Rivera came in on a wild pitch, and Murphy batted in three more with another double.
All of that run support was more than enough for
Alyssa Hajduk (5-6) who was making her 32nd appearance of the season, but just the eighth as a starter. Hajduk gave up just four hits with two walks and three strikeouts for her fourth-career complete-game effort.
For the nightcap, the Purple and White managed just five hits as two scored on wild pitches (five on the game for Saint Joseph's), Wells notched an RBI single and
Morgan McMahan blasted a two-run shot to right, her third of the year. In the circle,
Lauren Dale (17-6) was dominant as she made it seven winning decisions in a row with seven shutout frames, just three hits surrendered, one free pass, and one punchout. Dale's 17 victories are tied for sixth in the GLVC and her 152 innings pitched are good for 11th.
Next up, Truman will host Indianapolis for Senior Day on Sunday with first pitch in game one set for 12 p.m. The three Bulldog seniors,
Lex Van Nostrand, Schmidt and Wells will be recognized prior to the first contest against the Greyhounds.
