RECAP: Truman Shut Out by Wayne State in Midwest Regional

Midwest 1 Regional Central

ST. LOUIS - For the second year in a row, the Truman State University softball team faced off against right-handed hurler, Lyndsay Butler, and Wayne State in the first game of the NCAA Tournament's Midwest Regional. Just like the first time around, the 2016 NFCA Player of the Year and top-10 finalist for the honor right now, defeated the Bulldogs with a complete-game shutout, 1-0.

With the loss, Truman falls to 39-22 overall and awaits the loser of the game between top-seeded Missouri-St. Louis and eighth-seeded Kentucky Wesleyan, which is going on as this release is being written. That game will be on Friday at UMSL Softball Field with first pitch set for 2:30 p.m. In the circle, Butler improved to 23-8 on the season thanks to her 50th career shutout while Lauren Dale took the tough-luck loss and now sits at 21-9.

The Bulldogs' two hits came from Morgan McMahan's single through the right side in the top of the first and Riley Cook's single to left field in the top of the fifth. Overall, the Purple and White had a total of five baserunners, two of which reached second base, but no further. For the Warriors, they scored their one run in the bottom of the fifth when Butler doubled, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a groundout to Jamie Fowle at shortstop.

As mentioned above, Truman will now face either UMSL or Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday. Prior to that matchup, the Bulldogs went 1-2 against the Tritons this season and 0-1 vs. the Panthers. Live stats and GLVCSN coverage will be available for that game right here at TrumanBulldogs.com.
