Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Maryville Saints won their third straight game over the Truman Bulldogs as Mary Barton scored a game-high 23 points including six-for-six in the final minute at the line to preserve an 85-78 victory.

It was a game of punches and counterpunches. Truman (15-3; 6-2 GLVC) raced out to an early seven-point lead at 16-9 but 12 straight by the Saints (12-5; 6-2 GLVC) propelled them to a 21-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Maryville, who scored nine points in the first seven minutes of the game, scored 28 over an eight minute stretch that moved into the second quarter and held a 37-27 lead with 6:03 left in the half.

Truman closed hard with an 11-0 run to go into the locker room up 44-42 and scored the first seven in the third to lead 50-42.

The end of the third was a microcosm of the game. Katie Jaseckas knocked down a three pointer to put Truman up 64-62 but Hunter Stidham beat the clock at got the bank shot to fall to tie the game.

Maddie Re scored Truman's first four points in the fourth but then the Bulldog offense stalled out. Stephanie Sherwood rained in a triple to put the Saints up 69-68 and it would be a lead Truman could not retake.

The Bulldogs missed 11 straight shots and did not hit a field goal for nearly eight minutes. Brooke Bailey's three-pointer with 1:47 left pulled Truman back to within two at 75-73.

Rachel Edmundson scored with a minute left to keep it two points but Barton would be perfect from the line in the final minute. The junior made all six attempts while Truman continued to struggle from the floor.

Barton scored 23 points and was 7-of-16 from the field with three threes in 37 minutes of floor time. The Saints followed up their 14 three-point performance on Thursday with 12 on Saturday and won the three-point shooting contest against the Bulldogs 41.4% to 29.6% (8-of-27).

Jaseckas led four Truman starters in double figures with 16 points with Edmundson adding 15 and 13 each from Bailey and Sloane Totta. Truman had 14 turnovers while the Saints committed just seven.

The Bulldogs see their nine-game home and four-game conference winning streaks come to an end. They will continue the homestand next Thursday and Saturday with Illinois Springfield and McKendree visiting Kirksville.
