RECAP: Grand Valley Cuts Short Truman's Dancing Plans

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The dance was short-lived. Third-seeded Grand Valley State hit seven of their first 10 three-point shots and end the sixth-seeded Truman Women's Basketball tournament and season with a 89-64 defeat at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Friday.

The Lakers (28-3) took an early 15-5 lead on the Bulldogs and led 24-10 at the end of the first quarter. A Tiffany Davenport three-pointer midway through the second got the Bulldogs to their closest margin of 12 but the shots kept falling for Grand Valley and they nearly doubled up the Bulldogs 49-25 at the intermission.

Truman's top two scorers were held in check in the first 20 minutes with Rachel Edmundson and Sloane Totta going a combine 0-of-10 from the field with each missing three triples in the process. Meanwhile,  Maddie Dailey knocked down all five outside shots for the Lakers and along with Victoria Hedemark, were 12-of-15 from the field.

In the second half it was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Cassidy Boensch that went to work. Boensch scored 15 of her game high 27 points to close the door on the Truman season and place the Lakers into the regional semifinals. Hedemark finished with 26 points and Dailey finished with 21 as the five starters gobbled up the majority of playing minutes.

No Truman player broke double-digit scoring as Katey Klucking and Brooke Bailey tied for Bulldog top honors with nine points each.  Truman finished 8-of-27 from distance with Katie Jaseckas the only Truman player with multiple makes from range.

Truman closed the season in February and March with a 5-5 record but still finished with a school record 23 wins to go with eight losses.
