Statement Game For Truman State As Schrader Rushes For 278

ROLLA, Mo. – Truman's running back Cody Schrader set the tone on the game's first play from scrimmage as he went 74 yards untouched and finished with a career-best 278 yards on the ground in the Bulldogs 38-21 rout of Missouri S&T on Saturday. The Bulldogs move to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the GLVC.

Schrader had rushing touchdowns of 74, 69 and 61 yards on the afternoon and his 208 yards at half were the third highest by a Bulldog in school history. Only Chad Guthrie's 213 yards against Southwest Baptist in 1992 and Mike Richardson's 209 yards against Pittsburg State in 1962 were higher first half totals.

Schrader would finish with 278 on 22 attempts for an average of 12.6 per carry in his three quarters played as he departed with the Bulldogs up 38-7. It is the fifth highest single-game total by a Bulldog back finishing behind the 306 by Jarrett Anderson and Dale "Paley" Mills, 296 by Richardson and 280 by Guthrie. In six games this season, Schrader has already surpassed 1,000 yards on the season (1,044) and went over 2,000 (2,054) in 23 career games played.

Truman capitalized on four Missouri S&T turnovers, including a pick-six by Peyton Carr on a 20-yard INT return for a score in the third quarter.

Tate Crane caught a 7-yard pass from Nolan Hair to put Truman up 14-0 in the first quarter before the Miners had their longest possession of the game, a 13-play 80-yard drive that was capped by a Max Conard 2-yard run to trim the lead to 14-7.

Schrader busted a 69-yard run two plays later which was followed in the second quarter by Josh Scheiderer's 30-yard field goal to send Truman into the halftime break up 24-7.

Carr's pick-six and Schrader's 61-yard TD put Truman comfortably in front 38-7 through three quarters.

The Miners cashed in on a pick-six of their own by Justin Onwugbufor that went for 67 yards and an eight-yard TD run with 22 seconds left to play by Payton McAlister.

Truman finished with 483 yards of total offense and held the GLVC's top scoring offense to only 317 yards and two offensive touchdowns. The Miners entered Saturday's game averaging over 500 yards per game on offense and scoring over 42 points per game.

Carr and Kendall Hutchinson led the defense with 11 stops each and interceptions were by Carr, Ben Watson and Chase Jones. Watson added a fumble recovery to go with his six tackles, a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss on the afternoon.

Truman returns to the road next week when they face another top quarterback in the GLVC in Southwest Baptist's Copper Callis. The Bearcat signal caller threw for over 500 yards and six touchdowns in SBU's romp over William Jewell. Kickoff from Plaster Stadium in Bolivar, Missouri is slated for 1 p.m.
