Truman State Men's basketball hosts Maryville on Thursday, January 26th, at 7:30 p.m. and UMSL on Saturday, January 28th, at 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs moved to 9-10 overall and 4-7 in GLVC play following two huge wins against Missouri S&T and Drury. Truman defeated S&T 89-80 and Drury 79-63.
Against Missouri S&T, Hunter Strait and Elijah Hazekamp led the way, with Strait scoring 24 points and Hazekamp scoring 21. Strait went 9-16 from the field with five rebounds. Hazekamp shot 6-12 with four 3-pointers and eight boards. Missouri S&T went into the half with a two-point lead, up 42-40. Truman shot 14-34, and Elijah Hazekamp had 15 points at the break. Truman outscored S&T 44-38 in the second half, shooting 13-25 and going 14-17 from the line. Truman’s 22 made free throws were the difference in the game, as the Miners made only six on 10 attempts. Nduka Ogwu had another solid performance, scoring 11 points on 4-5 shooting. Ogwu recorded six rebounds on top of the 11 points. Xavier Hall scored nine points with seven assists. Dylan Peeters and Trey Shearer scored seven points each. CE Talton tallied five points in only nine minutes.
Against the Panthers, Drury held a 34-27 lead at halftime, with Drury shooting 11-23 from the field. Truman shot 9-30 with six 3-pointers. The Bulldogs had an incredible second half performance, shooting 16-27 from the field and outscoring Drury 52-29 in the half. Truman went on an 18-11 run to tie the game at 51-51. Following the 18-11 run, the Bulldogs scored 31 more points and held Drury to only 12. Elijah Hazekamp scored a season-high 27 points on 9-16 shooting from the field, and 5-9 from three. He grabbed nine rebounds and had four steals. Dylan Peeters had an efficient performance, scoring 15 points on 4-6 shooting. He went 7-7 from the free throw line. The Bulldogs as a team went 19-20 on free throws. Hunter Strait scored 13 points, and CE Talton scored nine on 3-5 shooting.
