Truman State Women's basketball plays at UINDY and McKendree following wins against Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis last week. The Bulldogs defeated Maryville 99-97 and UMSL 72-71. Truman is 15-6 and 11-2 in the GLVC.

The Truman State Women held on for a wild 99-97 overtime win over the Maryville Saints on Thursday night in Pershing Arena. Hannah Belanger and Antoinette Mussorici put on scoring displays for both teams with Mussorici scoring 33 and Belanger with 26, including a three-pointer to send the game to overtime.

Hannah Belanger only two points in the second half came at the most clutch time as the senior knocked down two free throws with 2.1 seconds left to give the Truman State women a 72-71 victory over Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.

Truman State Men's basketball is coming off a massive 69-62 win against No. 17 Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday, January 28th. The Bulldogs fell to Maryville in a close game on January 26th, losing 71-68.

Truman plays at No. 10 UINDY and McKendree this week. UINDY is 18-2 and 10-2 in conference play. McKendree is 9-10 and 5-7 in the GLVC.

The Bulldogs took down #17 Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) 69-62 in front of a rowdy home crowd at Pershing Arena.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-point lead, up 25-14 with 7:10 left in the first half. Hunter Strait scored eight points in that span. UMSL fought back to tie the game at 28 at the end of half. Truman shot 12-30 (40%) from the field, with none of their 11 3-point attempts going in. The Tritons of UMSL had a hard time getting a bucket as well, shooting 9-30 (30%), but went 4-14 from three.

The second half went back-and-forth, with both Truman and UMSL trading leads. The game was tied 57-57 with 6:42 left, but an electric dunk from Nduka Ogwu gave Truman the spark they were looking for. The Bulldogs kept a small lead, up two with a minute left in the game. CE Talton hit a clutch fadeaway 3-pointer in front of Truman’s bench with 0:28 left to secure the victory for the Bulldogs.

Hunter Strait led Truman in scoring with 16 points on an efficient 4-7 shooting. He went 8-11 on free throws and recorded seven assists along with four rebounds and two steals.

Truman State track competes in the Washburn Open in Topeka, Kan. on the campus of Washburn University on Friday and Saturday.

Jake Higgs led a trio of Men's Track & Field athletes for Truman State University at the Central (Iowa) College Dutch Winter Multi event. Higgs finished seventh, Hayden Long eighth and Alex Long 10th in the men's heptathlon.

Higgs scored 3,664 points in the seven events with his best finish being a fourth place in the pole vault. Higgs cleared 3.25 meters on his last attempt but was unsuccessful at 3.45.

The Long brothers excelled in the lone throwing event, the shot put. Alex was the event winner with a mark of 12.88 meters while Hayden tied for fourth with a distance of 11.15 meters. Hayden scored 2,816 points and Alex scored 2,268 points.

Truman State tennis is back in action this week, as the Bulldogs take on Missouri-St. Louis in St. Louis. Truman is 4-2 this season, with wins against Simpson College, Saint Ambrose, Central College, and Grand View.

Allie Brown, Sydney Dial, Julia Fangman, Akansha Negi, and Abbi Worster all have four wins on the season.

The Truman women's tennis team closed out their fall season with a dramatic 4-3 win over Grand View (Iowa) on Tuesday afternoon. 

The dual hinged on the number two singles match featuring Grand Views Kanishka Gowthaman and Truman's Akansha Negi. After dropping the first set 6-3, Negi stormed back to force a super tie break with a 7-5 victory in set two. The two battled back-and-forth in the tie break when Negi won the final two points to claim the match and the dual for the Bulldogs 12-10.

Sydney Dial and Abbi Worster earned the doubles point for the Bulldogs with a 6-1 win at number two, while Samantha Seggerman and Julia Fangman won be default for the second doubles win.

In other singles, Julia Fangman defeated Paige Adams 7-5, 6-2 at number four and Dial won by default at number six. 

Allie Brown was forced into a tie break at number one singles as was Kennidy Shirey at number five.
