The Truman State women’s soccer team will play their final two home games this weekend as they welcome Lewis University on Friday and Indianapolis on Sunday.

The team continues to battle for one of the eight spots for the Great Lakes Valley Conference postseason tournament. The Bulldogs are currently five points behind both Missouri-St. Louis and Missouri S&T for the final spots with five matches remaining on the schedule.

The Bulldogs dropped a tough 1-0 decision at McKendree on Friday night and had to postpone their contest with Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday.

Truman fell 1-0 to Lewis last year at home but are 10-9-4 overall against the Flyers. UINDY has won four of the last five over the Bulldogs with the last three played on the road. This will be the Greyhounds first trip to Kirksville since the spring COVID season of 2021.

The first GLVC Championships of the season will be decided on Saturday in Bolivar when the Truman State Cross Country teams run at the conference title meet.

Lewis was the coaches favorite in their preseason coaches poll with 169 points and 13 of 14 first-place votes while the Bulldogs were picked fifth.  The Flyers were the champions last season with 44 points with Southwest Baptist second with 62 points. The Bulldogs finished fifth with 105 points.

Addie Mathis, Breanna Mathes and Kate Yates all earned all-conference honors last season for the women with Mathis finishing in 17th place, Mathes in 19th and Yates in 20th. Mathes was the top freshman in the race and earned the GLVC Freshman of the Year award.

The Flyer men’s team will hope to sweep the conference championship as they are favored on that side of the ledger picking up seven first place votes. Defending champion Illinois Springfield received five first-place votes. Truman State was picked eighth in the survey and finished seventh, one point behind UINDY for sixth.

Evan AuBuchon is the top returning Bulldogs from last year’s race as he placed 41st.

William Jewell will be the Homecoming opponent for the Truman State Football team on Saturday as they look to pick themselves off the mat after the Indianapolis Greyhounds handed the team their first loss of the season on Saturday 38-17.

The Bulldogs committed three turnovers, had a field goal blocked and returned for a touchdown, missed a field goal and could not get the stops needed in falling to the Greyhounds on Saturday.

The game was tied at 14 with the Bulldogs driving but a blocked field goal returned 82-yards for a touchdown turned the tide of the game. UINDY would add 10 more points to go up 31-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Cardinals are 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the GLVC with their losses coming to UINDY and most recently Quincy on Saturday 41-28.

The Bulldogs have won nine of the 10 meetings with William Jewell since the two teams started playing under the GLVC banner in 2013. Truman State has won the last eight and have outscored the Cardinals 94-7 in the past two matchups.
