Truman State baseball kicks off their season in Millington, Tenn. with four games against Kentucky Wesleyan. Kentucky Wesleyan has already played three games and lost all three. The Panthers went 26-28 last season and 20-12 in conference play.

Truman Women's basketball is back in action at Quincy this Saturday after a tough loss to Lewis last Saturday.

Kathryn Schmidt's deep left wing three-pointer in overtime rallied the Lewis Flyers from 19 points down to defeat the Truman State women 90-87 in overtime.

Schmidt scored 28 second half points and 30 for the game as Lewis trailed by 19 points twice in the second quarter.

The Bulldogs raced out early using an assault from outside. At one point, Truman had a 10-1 advantage from outside and Hannah Belanger had 19 first half points and became the Bulldogs career three-point leader with five in the first 20 minutes.

Lewis turned the tide by hammering the ball down low and had a 15-5 turnover advantage. Lewis scored 44 points in the paint and turned the 15 turnovers into 16 points.

With the Flyers up 79-77, Gracie Stugart sent the game to overtime with a running layup with 10.6 seconds left.

Hannah Pinkston had the early hot hand for Truman in the extra period as she scored eight points and had two triples that kept the game tied down the stretch.

The Flyers got an offensive rebound to play for the last shot and it worked out perfectly.

Lewis worked the ball around the arc before finding Schmidt on the baseline as she swished the winning shot.

Belanger finished with 24, Pinkston 19, Ellie Weltha with 14 and 12 rebounds and Claire Rake with 12, nine coming in the first quarter.

The teams split their season series.

Truman State Men's basketball took home a victory against Lewis on Senior Day last week, and this week they travel to Quincy for a matchup with the Hawks.

A missed Lewis free-throw with 2.2 seconds left gave Truman Men’s basketball a 65-64 win over the Flyers on Senior Day.

All seven Truman seniors started the game. Sam Lock, Hunter Strait, Dylan Peeters, Elijah Hazekamp, and Devin Fields took the floor for their last home game in Pershing Arena. The seven players on the court resulted in a technical, and Lewis made both free throws.

The Bulldogs shot 12-32 (37.5%) from the field and 5-14 from three (35.7%) in the first half to go into the break with a 32-30 lead over Lewis. The half ended with Hunter Strait making two free throws with 1 second left to give Truman a two-point advantage. The Flyers had a nine-point lead with 6:07 left in the half but squandered it.

Truman and Lewis played an even second half, but the Bulldogs were able to keep a lead for almost the entirety of it. Lewis took the lead just once in the second half, going up 34-32 with 18:35 remaining. The Bulldogs and Flyers found themselves tied 63-63 with 2:34 left, but two Hunter Strait free throws gave Truman a two-point lead. With Lewis having the last possession of the game, Jamere Hill decided to take the game into his own hands. With two seconds left he was fouled on a shooting attempt by Dylan Peeters. He made the first free throw, but missed the second and Peeters came down with the rebound and the victory.

Dylan Peeters was Truman’s leading scorer against Lewis, scoring 17 points on 5-10 shooting. He showed Senior Day swagger with six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal in his final home game.

Hunter Strait also had a fantastic finale in Pershing Arena, scoring 13 on 4-11 shooting. He also recorded four rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Bradley Andrews, Trey Shearer, Brandon Kracht, Elijah Hazekamp, Sam Lock, Xavier Hall, CE Talton, and Mitchell Keaton all scored for the Bulldogs. Hazekamp grabbed seven rebounds along with five points.
