Truman State golf takes part in the Midwest Intercollegiate in Warrensburg, Mo. hosted by Central Missouri.

The Truman State Women's Golf team returned from their winter hiatus and opened their spring season at the Emerald Coast Classic near Destin, Florida last week. The Bulldogs improved on their team score in each of their three rounds plays in the ultra-competitive Division II event.

The Bulldogs got out of the gate slowly with a 345 team score after battling some weather issues in the area. On Monday, they shaved four shots off that total for a 341 and Tuesday knocked 18 shots of the previous round with a 323.

Catherine Salem posted the lowest individual round as she carded a 78 on Tuesday and finished with a 54-hole total of 258. Kara Hunt was the individual medalist for the Bulldogs with a 246 (83-83-80). Natalie Fatka was three shots back of Hunt with a 249 (83-87-80), followed by Salem then Reese Stovall at 261 (92-84-85) and Jordan Marshall with a 265 (91-87-87).

Truman State softball plays eight games this week, with six of them at home. The Bulldogs start the week off with two games at Missouri S&T on Monday, two against Upper Iowa on Thursday, two against Maryville on Saturday, and two against UMSL on Sunday.

Truman split their opening GLVC series at Drury 1-1, winning the second game 5-4 in extra innings. The Bulldogs are 8-16 on the season, matching their 2022 win total with 30 games left in 2023.

Alex Beard, Cassie Smith, McKenzie West, and Macy Taylor are all hitting over .300, with Beard leading the team with a .397 average. McKenzie West's 1.125 OPS leads Truman's qualified hitters.

Annabel Zimmer is 3-5 on the year with a 3.74 ERA and Beianna Klein is 4-5 with a 3.86 ERA.

Truman tennis has a busy week, playing four matches in four days. They start at Central College on Thursday, at Loras College on Saturday, and finish with Coe College and Cornell College on Sunday.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 4-3 win against Missouri Baptist on March 4th and look to improve on their 7-5 2023 record.

Sydney Dial is 9-4 on the year, and is on a five-match winning streak. Julia Fangman Abbi Worster, and Akansha Negi are also above .500, with Fangman having an 8-6 record, Worster at 7-4, and Negi at 3-2.

Truman State track begins their outdoor season this week as they go to Rolla, Mo. for the Miner Invitational.

The Women took fifth in the GLVC Indoor Championships, and the Men came home with 10th. Sophie Oxendale won the 800-meter run in the Championships, becoming the first Bulldog woman to win an event since 2015. 

Jacob Morris was named an All-American for the third time following his eighth place finish at the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Va. 

Truman State baseball suffered a slight setback against Rockhurst last week, dropping three of the four games played against the Hawks. The Bulldogs won the second game 7-6 in extras off a Luke Turner single.

This week, Truman plays four at GLVC rival Quincy. Quincy is 14-4 on the season and is ranked No. 7 and No. 15 in national polls, and took 2 from No. 2 Tampa on opening weekend. The Hawks have plenty of offensive firepower, with six qualified batters with a batting average over .333. 

The Bulldogs also have plenty of output on offense, with five qualified batters hitting over .300. Tal Dean leads the squad with a .394 average along with two home runs and 20 RBI. Luke Turner leads Truman in RBI with 29 in a team-high 84 at-bats. Turner's seven doubles is also the best on the team.

Zachry Schneider's season has been great so far, posting a 3.78 ERA in a team-high 33.1 innings pitched. He is 2-2 on the year and opposing hitters have a batting average of just .214 against him.
