KIRKSVILLE, MO. – Truman State Football kept its hopes for postseason football alive with a 55-3 dismantling of Southwest Baptist (Mo.) in the final contest of the regular season Saturday afternoon.
Six touchdown passes by sophomore quarterback
Dylan Hair tied him with Jake Czeschin for the school single game passing touchdown record set on Oct. 30, 2004, against Missouri S&T. It surpasses his brother
Nolan Hair's mark for Bulldog touchdown passes in a GLVC contest of five set against Quincy (Ill.) in 2021.
Sophomore wide receiver
Joseph Spaulding hauled in three touchdown passes to set a personal single game high on four receptions for 87 yards. Senior tight end
Christopher Kerr, playing in his final game at Stokes for the Purple and White, caught five balls for 67 yards including one touchdown to put him over the 1,000 yard mark for his career with 1,049 yards on 91 receptions.
Redshirt freshman wide receiver
Jackson Overton notched a 34-yard touchdown reception from Hair with 11:48 to play in the first quarter in what proved to be the game-winning score. His 10 receiving receptions on the season leave him one shy of tying the single season mark.
Senior defensive back Jack Closser took a punt return 86 yards to paydirt at 13:15 in the third quarter breaking the Truman State single-game longest punt return record set by Tony Gerke of 84 yards against Lincoln (Mo.) on Oct. 14, 1989. It was his second score as a punt returner in '24 having also scored on an 80-yard return against Wayne State (Mich.) earlier this season.
Truman State wraps the regular season 7-4 overall, 6-2 GLVC - on a three-game win streak where the Purple and White outscored opponents 141-10 - while Southern Baptist finishes the campaign 2-8 overall, 1-7 GLVC.
