Softball Ends Busy February With Split Of Games In Branson

BRANSON, Mo. -  The Truman State Softball team ended the month of February with a split on Friday in a pair of games in Branson, Missouri. The Bulldogs lost 8-6 to the University of Central Oklahoma before downing Missouri Southern 6-4.

Truman State will play Missouri Southern first on Saturday before closing the weekend with the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

The Bulldogs jumped on top against UCO with two runs scoring on a single by Caragan Baker in the first and an RBI double by Maddie Hickman in the second. 

Central Oklahoma loaded the bases in their half of the second and got their first run on a hit by pitch which was followed by a grand slam to make it 5-3. 

Avaree Taylor belted a two-run homer to answer right back to tie things up at five each.

UCO plated three in their half of the four to go up 8-5.

Emily Wood homered in the fifth to cut it to 8-6.

Truman scored all of their runs against Missouri Southern in the fifth inning to win 6-4. 

The Lions led 1-0 until Nina Fenasci gave Truman the lead with a two-run single. Hickman followed with a two-run double. Lily Arndt came home on a wild pitch and Cassie Smith scored on a single by Michaela Goad.

Southern answered with two in the sixth and one in the seventh before the Bulldogs closed it out. Kaylyn Jones earned the win with Charlotte Chelich picking up the save.
