Truman St. Women's Basketball hires Alexis Griffin as assistant coach

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Truman State Women's Basketball Head Coach Theo Dean announced the hiring of Alexis Griffin as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach.

"We're excited to welcome Alexis Griffin to our staff," said Dean. "She brings an impressive mix of energy and experience, and she's someone who has proven she can develop student-athletes and help build a winning culture."

Griffin joins the Truman State Women's Basketball program after spending the past three years as the Associate Head Girls Basketball Coach at Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo. During her tenure, the Kewpies achieved back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2022–23 and 2023–24, followed by a competitive 2024–25 campaign that included a postseason victory over a 24-win Grain Valley team in the Class 6 District 7 semifinals. In that three-year span, Griffin helped lead Hickman to two district championship appearances while also playing a key role in the development of multiple student-athletes, with at least four going on to compete at the collegiate level.

"From her time at Mizzou and gaining SEC-level insight, to her leadership and success at Hickman High School, she's shown a deep commitment to both player development and program success," Dean said. "She's also a proud Missouri native who understands our region and what it takes to thrive here. We're lucky to have her."

A 2022 graduate of the University of Missouri, Griffin earned her bachelor's degree in secondary social studies education. While at Mizzou, she served as a student manager for the Mizzou Women's Basketball program from 2018 to 2022. She gained valuable experience in the SEC, supporting a high-level Division I program and working closely with staff and standout players such as Sophie Cunningham, Aijha Blackwell, Hayley Frank, and Mama Dembele — several of whom earned All-SEC honors and national recognition during their careers. The Tigers made multiple postseason appearances during her time at Mizzou including a trip to the 2019 NCAA Tournament and two WNIT berths.

A Kansas City native, Griffin is a 2018 graduate of Lee's Summit North High School. As a standout student-athlete, she was a team captain and instrumental in leading her team to three consecutive conference championships, a district title, and an undefeated regular season.
