Mike Annese

In 2017-18, Mike Annese (uh-KNEE-see) completed his third season on head coach, Chris Foster's staff since he rejoined the Truman men's basketball program prior to the 2015-16 season as an assistant. Prior to that, he spent one season as an assistant coach at Minnesota-Crookston in 2014-15. He served as an assistant under former men's basketball head coach Matt Woodley in 2013-14 following two seasons at Iowa Lakes CC.

With Annese on the staff, the 2017-18 squad was able to accomplish many things including the following:
  • Fifth-straight 20-win season (had never been done more than two-straight years)

  • Two seed in GLVC Tournament (highest conference tournament seed in school history)
  • Appearance in GLVC Tournament finals (first time in school history and just third conference tournament finals appearance)
  • Back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances (first time in school history)
  • First-ever wins over Lewis and Indianapolis (0-9 prior to this season)
In 2016-17, Annese helped lead Truman State University men's basketball to one of the most successful seasons in program history. The Bulldogs appeared in the Division II NCAA Tournament for the first time in 11 years before falling to No. 14 Ferris State in the Midwest Regional quarterfinals by a score of 86-78. In the school's single-season record book, that squad finished first in three-point field goal percentage, first in points, first in points per game, first in field goal percentage, first in three-pointers made, first in three-pointers attempted, first in free throw percentage, second in field goals made, fourth in free throws made, fourth in scoring margin, tied for fourth in assists, fifth in field goals attempted, sixth in steals, seventh in blocks, eighth in free throws attempted, 10th in steals per game, and tied for 10th in rebounding defense.

Prior to his two seasons as a graduate assistant at Iowa Lakes CC, he played collegiately at Colorado State University for three seasons under head coach Tim Miles.

A native of Littleton, Colo., Annese received his Master’s degree in higher education from Iowa State University in 2011 after earning his Bachelor’s degree in sociology in 2010 from CSU.

In his three seasons as a Ram, Annese appeared in a total of 26 games, 20 of which came during his redshirt-senior season in 2009-10. Prior to transferring to Colorado State, he played for two seasons at Western State College of Colorado in Gunnison, Colo. and was the starting point guard for the Mountaineers during the 2005-06 campaign.
