Box Score
Truman (Mo.) State University 72 (11-6, 5-4 GLVC)
Rockhurst (Mo.) University 66 (8-9, 2-7 GLVC)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Allie Norton picked up right where she left off draining her first three-pointer of the game and scoring 12 points in the first 10 minutes.  The Bulldogs raced out to an early lead and held on for a 72-66 win over Rockhurst (Mo.) University.

Norton scored the game's first five points and the Bulldogs led 9-0 before the Hawks got on the scoreboard four minutes in. Truman led by a dozen on four separate occasions in the first half behind Norton's 16.

Truman kept the Hawks at bay most of the half but could not deliver the knockout punch.  Rockhurst used a 19-of-21 showing from the free throw line to whittle away at the Truman lead until the Hawks got to within five at 66-61 with 1:25 left.

From that point on it was crunch time as the Hawks pressured the Bulldogs and forced three of their 20 turnovers.

Mary Dineen's two free throws cut the lead to four with 13 seconds left but Kasey Gassensmith was able to nail down her free throws to preserve the win.

Norton finished with 23 points and in the process moved into Truman's top 10 in career scoring. She moved past Kelli Kreuser, Annie Westoff and Kristy Brown and now has 1,194 points. Ashley Hartwig had a strong second half and finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three steals.  Gassensmith finished with 11 points and was five-of-six at the line, mostly during clutch times.

The Bulldogs shot 46% overall, 15.8% from three and 84% at the line while pulling down 35 rebounds.

Rockhurst was led by Kendall Hart's 20 points and six offensive rebounds and Lauren Meyers 17 points and seven overall boards. The Hawks shot 30% for the game and 89% from the foul line. They had 33 rebounds with 18 coming on the offensive end.

Truman will embark on a four-game road trip that starts on Thursday night at nationally-ranked and GLVC West Division leading Drury (Mo.) University. The Lady Panthers were 21st in the latest Division II poll and ended Truman's season last year at the NCAA Regional.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. from Springfield, Missouri.
