KIRKSVILLE, Mo.  – The second-ranked Lewis (Ill.) University Flyers remained perfect on the season as they downed the Truman Women's Basketball team 93-57 on Sunday afternoon. The reigning Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year Mariyah Brawner-Henley had a 27-point, 21-rebound performance for the Flyers.
 
Brawner-Henley was dominate going 11-of-16 from the field with a three-pointer while pulling down 18 defensive rebounds and adding four assists and four steals to snap Truman's five-game winning streak.
 
The Bulldogs struggled offensively shooting 30% for the game and even colder outside hitting five of 17 three-point attempts. Aided by the 21 boards from Brawner-Henley, the Flyers controlled the glass with 19 additional rebounds (54 to 35).
 
Courtney Strait scored 22 points for the Bulldogs and had 10 in the first five minutes of the game as Truman trailed by four. It was her second straight 20-point performance following 21 against Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday night.
 
The Flyers took control when they went on a 16-3 run late in the first half and scored the final seven points of the period to lead by 24 at 51-27.
 
The second half was much the same with Truman managing 27% from the floor while the Flyers cooled off to 38% but connected on five of eight three-pointers.
 
Lewis had an advantage at the free throw line getting to the stripe 34 times. They outscored Truman by 15 at the line. Truman came into the game averaging 12 personal fouls per game but were tagged with 21, 13 in the first half, when the free throw discrepancy was 22 to three.
 
Jess Reinhart (19), Jamie Johnson (18) and Kristin Itschner (15) joined Henley-Brawner in double-figures for the Flyers.
 
Michalina Tomczak scored 13 points and Allie Norton added 10 to join Strait's 22. Tomczak added eight rebounds.
 
Truman will continue cross-divisional games in the GLVC next Thursday and Saturday with road games at McKendree (Ill.) on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. and at Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon.
