KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Randy Schroeder threw for 274 yards in his first career start and the Truman Bulldogs celebrated a homecoming victory with a 23-14 win over Southwest Baptist (Mo.) on Saturday afternoon at Stokes Stadium.

The Bulldogs led 10-0 at half and 17-0 early in the third quarter only to watch SBU score a pair of third quarter TDs, one on the defensive end on a pick six to trim the lead to 17-14. Truman would win the fourth quarter with a pair of field goals and nearly 10 minutes of possession time to seal the win.

Scoring Summary:
  • The Bulldogs jumped on top 7-0 on an eight-yard TD pass from Randy Schroeder to Joey Schenck with 54 seconds left in the first quarter to cap off a season-long 18-play, 83-yard drive that consumed seven minutes and 52 seconds.
    • Key Play (s): The Bulldogs methodical march started at their own 17 following a blocked field goal from Truman's Brian Craft. Truman converted on a third and five with Schroeder finding Schenk for nine yards, a third and 10 with an 11-yard pass to Andy Satulla and a fourth and five with another eight-yard strike to Schenk. Schenk caught five passes during the drive.
  • Roger Howard would connect on a 21-yard field goal with 3:33 left in the half to complete a nine-play, 26-yard drive.
    • Key Play (s): A botched snapped by SBU was recovered by Devin Gillespie at the Bearcat 30. Schroeder found Schenk again on third down with a nine-yard completion to move the chains. A.J. Hartfield had a 10-yard run down to the seven.
  • The Bulldogs would go up 17-0 as Malique Robbins rushed in from 29 yards out on fourth down on Truman's first possession of the second half.
    • Key Play (s): Robbins had a pair of 20+ yard rushes on the drive, both his longest of the season. He scampered 22 to move the ball from the Truman 42 down to the SBU 36. On third and 11, Schroeder got eight yards on a completion to Satulla setting up the fourth and three for Robbins.
  • The Bearcats struck right back on their next possession when Trent Edwards tossed a screen pass to Kendrick Payne and then went 62 yards down the near sideline for the score.
    • Key Play (s): On second and 10, Edwards threw it to the right side to Payne who escaped a tackle and raced down the sideline into the endzone.
  • Anton McBee picked off his second pass of the day and went 31 yards untouched to trim the Bulldog lead to 17-14 with 1:44 left in the third quarter.
    • Key Play (s): Truman's "D" came up big again with their second blocked field goal of the day on the previous SBU drive. That drive nearly ended on the first play with Bubba Jenkins breaking loose for a 65-yard run down to Truman's 15 yardline. Jordan Brown and Austin Zoda sacked Edwards on first and goal then Justin Mikeworth blocked the 29 yard attempt. Truman took advantage of two pass interference fouls to move the ball out to the 25. McBee stepped in front of Schroeder's second and five pass to score the touchdown from 31 yards out with Edwards rushing in for the two-point conversion.

Hartfield ran for 32 yards on four of the first five plays of the drive and Schroeder gambled with a 19-yard pass to Neboh on third and eight to keep the clock and chains moving.
