WBB Recap: Truman 69, Hannibal-LaGrange 37

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Basketball team came out swinging, hitting over 55% of their shots in the first half and pulled away for a 69-37 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College on Monday night. Michalina Tomczak led all scorers with 16 points.

A 15-0 run spanning the final minute of the first quarter and carrying over to the second broke a 12-12 tie. After not hitting a three-pointer in Saturday's loss to Missouri Southern, Linnea Schmelzer's triple tied the game with the Trojans with 1:56 left in the first quarter.

Kasey Gassensmith and Rachel Edmundson both connected on threes during the run. Gassensmith's second three-pointer keyed a 7-0 run to give Truman a 31-14 lead midway through the second quarter.

The Bulldogs maintained their 20-point advantage throughout the second half and even extended it to as many as the final margin of victory 32 at the end of regulation.

Truman shot 45.6% for the game and 50% from three as they nailed six of 12 attempts from long range. Tomczak was the only Bulldog in double figures as 14 of the 16 players on the roster scored. Tomczak was 7-of-12 from the field and pulled down six rebounds while adding a pair of blocks in 18 minutes of action.

The Trojans got 11 points and eight rebounds from Morgan Winkler however they shot only 23.5% for the game and 17.6% from outside.
Truman returns to Division II play on Wednesday night when they travel to Upper Iowa University for a 7 p.m. start. The Bulldogs next home action will be Saturday afternoon against Culver-Stockton (Mo.) College.
