Women's Soccer Caps Perfect Road Weekend

RENNSELAER, Ind. - - The Truman women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak in league play to six on Sunday afternoon, as the Bulldogs picked up a 2-1 road victory at Saint Joseph's College in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

Match Breakdown:
  • The Bulldogs jumped on the board first, as, in the 17th minute, Megan Whitehead logged her second tally of the season. Whitehead took a pass from Alexis Heffernan and hit her shot off the post and in for the game's first goal.
  • Shots were four apiece in the first half.
  • Truman was all over the Puma frame early in the second half, taking five shots and earning three corner kicks between the 48th and 53rd minutes of action. SJC flipped the field, and, after a corner kick in the 62nd minute, Haley Celebre headed in the cross to knot the match.
  • While the box score/play-by-play says four seconds, on-site reports claim that approximately 2-3 minutes later, Bulldog forward Stephanie Williams converted by finishing a Kelsey Murphy pass to put Truman back on top, 2-1.
  • For the match, the Bulldogs ended up out-shooting SJC, 15-7, including 9-6 on goal, as five different Truman players took at least two shots. Sophomore keeper Katie Mattingly made five saves in her 90 minutes between the bars.
 
Extra Notes:
  • Truman is now one of two unbeaten teams in the GLVC, as the Bulldogs are just a half-game back of first-place Bellarmine (5-0-1 GLVC). Truman is a half-game ahead of both Drury (4-1-1) and Quincy (3-0-3) who are both in third place.
  • The Bulldogs now have an 11-5-3 lead in the all-time series, including a 3-0 mark against SJC since Truman joined the GLVC in 2013.

  • The Bulldogs return home for next weekend's Soccer Hall of Fame festivities on the Truman campus, beginning with a Friday match at 2:30 p.m. against Rockhurst.
  • Emily Huyck (1998-2001) will go into the Truman Athletics Hall of Fame next weekend. Huyck will be recognized at an honorary banquet on Saturday (Oct. 3) night at 7 p.m. before on-field recognition on Sunday (Oct. 4) prior to the team's match against William Jewell at 2:30 p.m.
