RECAP: Lindenwood Uses Big Second Half to Hand Truman First Loss

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Truman men's basketball team ended the first half on an 18-4 run and led host Lindenwood 47-41 at the break. However, the Lions outscored the Bulldogs 53-36 in the second half en route to the 94-83 decision and the Purple and White's first loss of the season.

With the loss, Truman now sits at 2-1 overall while Lindenwood has itself a 3-0 start for the second time in as many seasons. The Bulldogs were led by a quartet of scorers in double figures including Cory Myers (15 points), Dwight Sistrunk, Jr. (15), Nathan Messer (11), and Nikola Pesic (10). Myers also led the team in both rebounds with eight and assists with four and Sistrunk Jr. secured the first two-block game of his career in the Purple and White.

In the first half, the visitors led by as many as five (twice) in the first 10 minutes and change before the home team began to gather some serious momentum. Over the course of the next six minutes and 48 seconds, Lindenwood used a 23-10 run to take an eight-point lead, its biggest of the first half, 37-29. Truman responded nicely, though, and answered with an 18-4 spurt of its own that lasted until the buzzer, literally. The outburst was capped when Sistrunk Jr. sunk his first three-point attempt of the season and the clock had struck zeros with the away team ahead by six, 47-41, heading into the locker room. During that stretch, the Bulldogs were a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor, 4-for-4 from behind the arc and 4-of-4 at the free throw line.

Through the first 12 minutes and 17 seconds of the second period, it was a back-and-forth affair that saw a combined five ties and four lead changes. However, from that point until the end of the game, the Lions held the lead with a 25-13 run, and even took an advantage as big as 11 three different times (90-79, 92-81 and 94-83). During that final stretch, Lindenwood made seven of its 10 field-goal attempts and eight of its 10 attempts at the free throw stripe with just one turnover to Truman's five.

Next up, the Bulldogs will make their 2016-17 home debut on Saturday against Upper Iowa with tip set for approximately 3 p.m. inside Pershing Arena.
