BOX SCORE (HTML)

LIBERTY, Mo. – Rachel Edmundson scored 20 points however a big third quarter by William Jewell lifted the Cardinals to a 68-63 victory over the Truman Women's Basketball team on Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Truman led by four at the break but was outscored 23-11 in the third quarter. The key was the Cardinal's Hayden Butler. The WJC guard came into the game with only 10 points on the season but found her stroke from long range and buried three of four in the quarter alone and tallied 11 points. The Cardinals went 5-of-7 from three overall in the quarter while the Bulldogs missed out on all four of their attempts.

The swelled to 15 following another triple by Butler midway through the fourth quarter and the Cardinals led by as many as 13 with 4:27 left to play.

The Bulldogs fought back. Eleanor Lueke keyed a triple to start a 10-0 run by Truman to make it 60-57 with 2:05 showing. Forty seconds later Ashley Hartwig converted on a three-point play to bring the Bulldogs to within one at 61-60.

Maddie Nelson knocked down a shot at the 1:06 mark and a Truman tying three-point attempt was missed. On the other end, Nelson got the block/charge call in her favor while making a basket during the play and hitting the free throw to give the Cardinals enough breathing room at the end.

Butler finished with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and 5-of-8 from long range to lead the Cardinals to a 2-0 conference start.

The Bulldogs got 20 points from Rachel Edmundson and 15 from Hartwig but struggled from outside hitting only 3-of-18 three-point attempts. Truman also shot 66% from the free throw line and committed 18 turnovers.

Truman will look to get back into the win column when they head east to face their rival Quincy next Saturday afternoon. Tip off from Quincy is slated for 1:00 p.m.
