RECAP: Truman Rolls Past Central Methodist, Ties Best Start Since 1960-61

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Bulldogs hit the 90-point mark for the fourth time this season and the second game in a row on Tuesday night as they rolled past Central Methodist, 98-67, inside Pershing Arena. The 31-point win over the Eagles pushed Truman's winning streak to six and its overall record to 8-1, which is tied for the program's best start since the 1960-61 campaign (9-1).

The Purple and White boasted four scorers in double-figures for the second-straight contest and were led by a pair of 20-point performers in Cory Myers (22) and Nathan Messer (21). Also reaching the 10-point plateau were Connor Erickson with 13 (game high seven rebounds) and Zach Fischer off the bench with 10. Other team leaders included Dwight Sistrunk, Jr. (pictured) with seven assists and Nikola Pesic with two steals. Myers (6-of-7) and Messer (5-for-11) combined to make 11 of the team's 16 three-pointers as Truman was 16-of-33 (48.5 percent) from behind the arc. Kyle Kanaskie finished with nine points and was perfect from the field (4-for-4) while Jack Green added nine points of his own.

After one half, the Bulldogs were shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor with 20 makes on 34 attempts (58.8 percent) before finishing at 55.4 percent (36-for-65). In the team head-to-head, Truman controlled the action in nearly every category including points off turnovers (24-10), second-chance points (12-5), points in the paint (32-20), fast-break points (11-2), rebounds (42-26), and assists (21-16).

At the start of the night, the Bulldogs scored 13 of the first 18 points over the course of three minutes and 40 seconds. During that span, Myers had six, Erickson had four and Messer chipped in three. From that point until the 6:22 mark, the scoring was much more balanced, but still in favor of Truman, 21-19. The Bulldogs then doubled up the Eagles through the rest of the first half, 18-9, and went into the locker room with a 19-point advantage, 52-33. During that big push for the home team, six different players found the scoring column for Truman as it was 7-of-12 in shot attempts.

Out of the intermission, the Bulldogs used yet another big run to put away their opponent, this time to the tune of 23-8 over six minutes and 37 seconds. At the end of that spurt, Truman had stretched its lead to 34, 75-41. After that until the final buzzer, the margin was never smaller than 29 (75-46 and 78-49) and was as big as 40 (92-52 and 95-55) before the final 31-point spread. Because of the wide margin, the Bulldogs were able to get guys in like Taurin Hughes (nine minutes, three points, two rebounds, and two assists), Connor Lusso (nine minutes and three boards) and Jacob Socha (seven minutes, two points and four rebounds).

Next up, Truman travels to Quincy (8-1, 2-0 GLVC) on Saturday for a huge early season GLVC West showdown. Action inside the Hawks' Pepsi Arena is set to get underway at 3 p.m.
