KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – In an early season battle between two nationally-ranked rivals, it was the #25 Truman Bulldogs stopping #9 Bellarmine (Ky.) 1-0 with Truman's Kelsey Murphy scoring 40 seconds into overtime.

Stephanie Williams stopped a Bellarmine clearing chance seconds into the overtime period and fed Murphy streaking to her left. Murphy then fought through a pair of defenders before beating keeper Hannah Poteet for the game winner at the 90:43 mark.

It was Murphy's first goal of the season and fourth for her career while Williams picked up assist number two on the year and sixth for her career.

Bellarmine had knocked off the Bulldogs twice last season. The first helped the Knights win the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season title and the second ended the Bulldogs run in the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Truman didn't face the Knights but won the GLVC Postseason championship on Bellarmine's home field last November.

As expected, the match was pretty even with the Knights registering nine shots overall and three on goal while Truman had five shots and two on net.

The Bulldogs turned up the pressure midway through the second period as Erica Atnip broke free for a chance but the ball got too far ahead of her and was gobbled up by Poteet with 20 minutes remaining. Later, Williams had a golden chance on her foot but Poteet dived to her right to make the save.

Katie Mattingly and the Truman defense once again were able to pitch the shutout. It was the Bulldogs' fourth straight shutout.

Truman will host Southern Indiana on Sunday at noon to wrap up their weekend of GLVC action. The Screaming Eagles visit Quincy on Friday evening and enter that match with a 4-1 overall record, 1-1 in the GLVC.
