RECAP: Bulldogs Hold On For Road Win Over Illinois Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Cassidy Clark scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Truman Women's Basketball team survived on the road 76-71 over Illinois Springfield on Thursday night.
 
The Bulldogs (7-6; 2-2 GLVC) led by 10 on six separate occasions including 65-55 with 6:01 left to play. The Prairie Stars (6-5; 0-3 GLVC) slapped on a full court press and scored nine of the next 10 points to close the gap down to two with 3:16 to go.
 
Illinois Springfield would eventually tie the game on a pair of free throws from Destiny Ramsey at 68 apiece. Post players Clark and UIS' Syerra Cunningham exchanged hoops in the next two possessions to make it 70 all with 50 seconds to play.
 
Truman spread the floor and Clark was able to work up the go ahead shot with 36 ticks left on the clock.
 
Shelbi Patterson got the block/charge call on the other end of the court but made one of two free throw attempts to keep Truman in front 72-71.
 
The biggest shots of the night came next. Sloane Totta was fouled following a timeout and went to the line for the first time in the game. The Bulldog freshman knocked down both free throws to put Truman up three.
 
Tehya Fortune launched up a three-pointer with six seconds left for the tie but missed and Brooke Bailey corralled the rebound. Clark finished off the game with two more free throw makes with one second remaining.
 
Clark was 9-of-18 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line for her third 20-point game this season. She added nine rebounds (four offensive), three blocks, four steals and two assists. Rachel Edmundson and Eleanor Lueke scored 10 apiece as Truman shot 43% overall and were 6-of-17 (35%) from distance.
 
Cunningham finished with a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. She came into the contest leading the GLVC in boards at over 11 per night. Caroline Kelty (13) and Jasmine Sangster (12) were the other UIS players in double figures.

The Prairie Stars shot 40% overall and 30% from the arc while making 17-of-22 (77%) free throw attempts.

The Bulldogs will head south down Interstate 55 to the St. Louis area for a Saturday matinee with McKendree starting at 1 p.m. The Bearcats were dealt a 64-61 loss at the hands of Quincy in a game with both teams searching for their first conference win.
