RECAP: Women Complete Lincoln Land Sweep With Win At McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. – The Truman Women's Basketball team overcame a sluggish start to win their third straight game and sweep their conference road trip 73-64 victory over McKendree on Saturday.
 
The Bulldogs fell behind 9-0 and finished the first quarter hitting only two of 15 shots from the field.
 
Rachel Edmundson got things started in the second quarter with an early three-pointer and the Bulldogs rattled off seven straight to pull within one. Later, Edmundson completed a three-point play to draw even with the Bearcats at 16 apiece and Brooke Bailey put Truman on top for good with a hoop with seven minutes left in the second quarter.
 
Truman led 28-24 at the half.
 
Cassidy Clark took over for the Bulldogs in the third quarter. Clark was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field and scored nine of her game-high 21 points during the stanza. Clark finished going 9-of-11 from the field and matched Thursday night's total in blocks with three and steals with four. It was her second straight 20-point game and fourth this season.
 
Her three-point play began a 12-0 run by Truman that put the Bulldogs on top by 14 points with 1:57 left in the third quarter.
 
McKendree did not go away and clawed their way back to three at 47-44 with 7:45 remaining in the game. Edmundson restored order by burying her third triple of the game on Truman's next possession. Clark scored six straight followed by a three-pointer by Sloane Totta and an exclamation three-point play by Montira Mosby to push the lead back out to 16 points at 62-46 with under four minutes to play.
 
The Bearcats tried to chip away but the Bulldogs made the majority of their free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.
 
Edmundson finished with 15 points and Bailey was the third Bulldog in double figures with 11 adding six assists.
 
Truman outscored the Bearcats 20-7 at the free throw line as the road team was whistled for nine personal fouls compared to the 26 by the home squad.
 
Amber Alexander led McKendree in scoring with 19 points and made four of five shots from distance.
 
The Bulldogs finish the five-game conference road start 3-2 and will host a pair of 4-0 East Division teams in Pershing Arena next weekend. Truman will host Southern Indiana (12-2, 4-0) on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. followed by #4 Bellarmine (12-1, 4-0) on Saturday afternoon.
