ST. LOUIS - Friday at Maryville, the Truman State University volleyball team earned its ninth sweep of the year, pushed its winning streak to four and got back to the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Truman (11-11, 4-6 GLVC) now leads the all-time series with Maryville (2-20, 1-9 GLVC) to the tune of 7-1 and has won the last five meetings between the two teams. In the two squads' most recent showdown, the Bulldogs were led by
Jasmine Brown (15 kills),
Savvy Hughes (39 assists),
Lauren Wacker (23 digs), and
Holly Hildebrand (five blocks).
How it happened..
- In the first set, after Truman scored the first point, Maryville scored the next three in a row to go up by three.
- The Saints then pushed their lead to four, 7-3, before the Bulldogs rattled off four in a row to knot it up, 7-7.
- The set saw eight more ties with the final one being 18-18 before the Purple and White put it away.
- The visitors then scored seven of the final 11 points to win the set by three, 25-22.
- There were five ties in the first 14 points scored of the second set before Truman used a 6-1 spurt to go ahead by five, 13-8.
- After that, Maryville was never closer than three, 17-14, and Truman led by as many as 10, 24-14, before the final score of 25-18.
- In the third set, Truman scored the first two points and Maryville never took the lead let alone tied it up.
- The Bulldogs were ahead 5-1 before the Saints pulled to within two on two occasions, 6-4 and 9-7.
- After that, the home team was never closer than three, 15-12 and 16-13.
Next up, Truman is at Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday with the first serve set for 3 p.m. The Tritons are 15-6 overall, 5-5 in the GLVC and have won five of their last six matches.
