Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Katie Jaseckas and Remy Davenport scored 16 points apiece and the Bulldog Women held off Missouri-St. Louis 71-66 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener.

The Bulldogs raced out to a 12-2 lead in the first quarter capped by a Rachel Steinhoff three-pointer. However, the Tritons battled back and had a 34-29 lead at the intermission.

The second half starters scored the first six points to give Truman the lead for good and opened the third quarter on a 9-3 run. They led by as many as seven in the quarter before the Tritons scored a pair of buckets to close the third down 53-50. Jaseckas scored nine of her 16 points in the third quarter, going 4-4 from the field with a free throw.

UMSL scored the first two points of the fourth from the line to trim the lead down to one but Ashley Hartwig's basket at the 6:54 mark sparked a 12-0 run. That push was aided by eight straight from Davenport including a pair of three-pointers.

The Tritons got as close as four following a triple by Arielle Jackson but Rachel Edmundson was clutch at the line with two with 27 seconds left.

Edmundson was the third Bulldog in double-figures with 12 points with a perfect 8-of-8 at the charity stripe. Jaseckas was 7-of-9 from the field and Davenport drilled four threes to go along with eight rebounds. Truman shot 50% from the field and was 8-of-19 from outside.

UMSL had five players in double figures led by 15 from Jackson and 12 points and 12 rebounds by Alex LaPorta. The Tritons shot 39% overall, 38% from the arc and won the glass by a 41-29 margin.

Truman will step outside of conference action with a game against Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) College on Monday evening in Pershing Arena. Start time is slated from 5:30 p.m.
