RECAP: Bulldogs Crack The Win Column With 1-0 Victory Over Jewell

BOX SCORE

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Truman Women's Soccer team knocked William Jewell from the unbeaten ranks and picked up their first win in the process as Paige Peterson scored late in the first half to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 victory.

It was the freshman's first collegiate goal as she took a pass from midfielder Jen Seithel and blasted a shot into the top right corner from 22 yards out. That broke Jewell's shutout streak of four games and was the first goal allowed by the Cardinals in 2017. The goal was scored in the 42nd minute and with seven of the 10 field players for Truman all being reserves at the time of the goal.

The hot and humid conditions dictated multiple subs for both squads. Truman went 10 deep on their bench and the Cardinals sent seven subs into the contest.

Jewell fired off a pair of late chances looking for the equalizer. Kayla Crowder fired a rocket that missed the far post at the top of the 18 with 10 minutes left and Gracie Schweinfurth drilled the crossbar with 6:25 left in regulation from distance.

Katie Mattingly and the Bulldog defense got their first shutout of the season as Mattingly made routine saves on two shots on goal.

The Bulldogs will square off against another conference unbeaten in Rockhurst on Sunday afternoon. It will be a rematch of the top two teams in the Great Lakes Valley Conference from a season ago. Match time is at 2:30 p.m. in Kirksville.
