RECAP: Miners Spoil Family Night With 27-11 Win Over Bulldogs

BOX SCORE

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri S&T Miners spoiled Family Night at Stokes Stadium as they defeated the Truman Bulldogs 27-11 in a game that started nearly three hours late due to lightning.

The field was cleared just at the end of warmups, about a half hour before kickoff as a storm front moved through the Kirksville area. Lightning lingered on until about 9:15 local time before the teams could retake the field for a brief warm up.

S&T got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter when Braxton Graham went on an end around and scored from 25 yards out to cap off an eight-play, 71-yard drive. The Miners added another touchdown seven minutes later on a five yard pass from Tyler Swart to Graham.

The Bulldogs cut into the lead before half when Danny Spencer converted on a 42-yard field goal at the 2:31 mark to make it 13-3.
Neither team could get things going in the third but later in the quarter, Swart found Logan Armontrout for a 16-yard strike and a 20-3 lead with 1:23 left in the third.

Bryan Edwards recovered a fumble for Truman and Jaden Barr found Jordan Salima for a 20-yard pass reception to cut the lead down to nine as the two-point conversion was good. However on the next S&T possession, Deshawn Jones broke free for a 36-yard run to score an insurance touchdown with 7:59 to play.

The Bulldogs finished the game going 1-of-16 on third down and were 2-of-7 on fourth downs. They finished with 236 yards of total offense while S&T racked up 421 yards.

Jones finished with 152 yards on 28 carries and as a team S&T ran the ball 52 times for 205 yards. Swart completed 16-of-26 for 216 and was sacked four times.

Salima gained 54 yards on the ground for Truman. Dan Zeigler got the start at quarterback and was 5-of-19 for 84 yards while Barr finished 6-of-18 for 89 yards.  Malique Robbins had a big night on kick returns with four for 175 and a long of 65.

Justin Mikeworth finished with a team high 16 tackles for Truman with Sam Reeves notching two of the 'Dogs four quarterback sacks.

The Bulldogs will go out on the road for two more games starting next Saturday afternoon at Lincoln. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
