QUINCY, Ill. - The Truman State University men's soccer team gave up one goal in the 40th minute of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opener at rival Quincy and that was the difference for the two teams on Friday night.
Overall, the Bulldogs fell to 1-3 while the Hawks jumped above the .500 mark at 2-1. For Quincy, its score came off the foot of Anthony Christante at the 39:24 mark of the first half and he was assisted by Justin Armfield. In goal for Truman, that was the only blemish on the night for
Zac Suazo as he saved four shots in 90 minutes.
Offensively for the Purple and White,
Jeremy Rehagen led the charge with four shots, one of which was on goal, while
Jake Koenig,
Matt Yankowitz and
Ben Nivala were each responsible for two shots. Koenig led the team in shots on target as both of his attempts had the accuracy.
For the team head-to-head, those numbers show just how evenly matched this showdown actually was. Quincy had the upper hand in shots and shots on goal, but barely, at 13-11 and 6-5, respectively. Each squad had four corner kick attempts and the Bulldogs had one more foul called on them at 13-12.
Next up, Truman will host Illinois Springfield on Sunday with kickoff set for 12 p.m. at Bulldog Soccer Park.
