RECAP: Truman Upsets No. 15 Indianapolis, 3-2

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Until Friday, it had been eight matches since the Truman State University men's soccer team had tasted victory. With No. 15 Indianapolis in town, the Bulldogs defeated the Greyhounds for the first time since 2004 (0-3-2 since then) and picked up a win over a top-15 opponent for the first time since beating No. 6 Rockhurst at home on Oct. 2, 2015.

Truman (3-5-4, 1-5-3 GLVC) scored three times, nearly as many goals as it had accounted for in the previous seven matches combined (4) and tied the season high for goals scored at home. Since starting the fall with six-straight wins, Indianapolis (9-3-1, 5-3-1 GLVC) has gone 3-3-1 since.

Nearly 23 minutes into the match, Truman was called for a handball in the box before Indianapolis' Javier Steinwascher put his team ahead with the penalty kick goal.

After 30+ minutes of play and the 15-minute halftime had come and gone, Matt Yankowitz got the home team on the board with his team-leading sixth goal of the season on a rebound from right in front. The Bulldogs were just getting started.

In the 66th minute, Tristyn Hasmer found the back of the net for the first time this season thanks to an absolute bullet from 25 yards out and a Ryan Stites' assist. Just over a minute later, Trevor Kaufmann scored the eventual game-winner with his third goal of the season on a Yankowitz pass.

Indianapolis cut the deficit to one with a goal in the 76th minute, but Truman hung together and held on for the one-goal victory.

In goal, Roy Hart (pictured) dazzled in his first career start. With just about 16 minutes of playing time to his name entering Friday's match, Hart went the distance with eight saves on a crazy 19 (!!!) shots faced.

In the team head-to-head, Indianapolis held the advantage in total shots (20-15), shots on goal (10-7) and corner kicks (6-4). All 15 of the Bulldogs' shots came from starters while Kaufmann was out in front of shots on target with two.

Next up, Truman will look to make it two in a row when it hosts Bellarmine for Senior Day on Sunday. Kickoff against the Knights is set for 2:30 p.m. at Bulldog Soccer Park. GLVCSN coverage and live stats will be available for the showdown right here at TrumanBulldogs.com.
