Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Mackenzie Bray knocked down one of three free throw attempts with three seconds remaining and William Jewell's potential winner hit the back of the iron as Truman survived 60-59 over the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors took their largest lead at four with 3:03 to play but Rachel Edmundson knocked down a wing triple with 1:53 left to spark the comeback. Edmundson converted on a pair of free throws following a miss by Jewell at the other end of the court to give Truman the lead with 1:16 left.

Natalie Closser was fouled and missed the first but got the second to tie things up with 48 seconds remaining. After a Truman timeout, Katie Jaseckas missed a shot down low but the ball caromed out of bounds off a Cardinal defender.

The Bulldogs worked the clock down and Bray popped open on the right 45 for a three but on the close-out, Kiara Bradley got the arm forcing the whistle. Bray made the first but missed the next two with a timeout sandwiched in the sequence.

The Cardinals inbounded and Bradley had a good look inside the paint but the ball was strong giving Truman their eighth win of the season and a conference weekend sweep.

It was a cold shooting day for both teams. Truman shot 46% in the first half but only 22% in the second for 33% for the game. They were 5-of-24 from three (20.8%). The Cardinals were no better at 37% for the game and 3-of-19 from distance (15.8%).

Jaseckas finished with a dozen to lead Truman and added eight rebounds. Bray and Maddie Re each scored 11 with Bray grabbing eight rebounds in her most minutes of the season at 26, all off the bench.

Bradley paced the Cardinals with 17 points.

Truman will enter the light portion of their schedule. The Bulldogs will host Columbia (Mo.) College in an exhibition game on Wednesday night then play just two more games (December 17-18) in the month. Tip off for the exhibition with the Cougars is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
