RECAP: Bulldogs Bury Barry Buccaneers 96-72

Box Score (HTML)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Truman Women's Basketball team scored 15 of the first 17 points to boat race past the Barry (Fla.) Buccaneers 96-72 for the first 11-1 start in Truman history and Bulldog coaching win number 99 for Amy Eagan.

Truman led 24-8 after the first quarter and boasted a season-high 38-point lead in the third to become the first women's basketball team at Truman to win 11 of their first 12 games. Only the 2007-08 team started the season with a 10-1 record. In addition, Coach Eagan moved one victory away from not only the century mark at Truman but from tying Mary Jo Murray for the most wins by a women's basketball coach at the school. Murray was 100-80 in seven seasons on the bench while Eagan will be looking for 100 in her sixth.

Four players finished in double figures led by 14 from Rachel Edmundson. Sloane Totta and Mackenzie Bray added 13 apiece and Brooke Bailey scored a dozen. Maddie Re was four-for-four from the field for nine points and added nine rebounds. Truman dominated the glass 49-27 while shooting 48% from the field, 41% from three and 80% at the line.

Barry falls to 3-7 and got 19 points each from Nichel Tampa and Harriet Swindells.

Earlier in the day, Truman remained on the cusp of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Top 25 this week. The Bulldogs received votes again but sit just outside the rankings.

They will begin conference play in earnest and with a tough four-game road trip starting on January 3rd at nationally-ranked Lewis University. The Flyers were 20th in the poll with an 8-1 record heading into the week. The trip will continue with games at Indianapolis, Southern Indiana and Bellarmine (Ky.).
