RECAP: Lewis Flies Past Truman In Second Half

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – In a match-up of top 25 teams in Division II on Thursday night, #20 Lewis soared past #24 Truman 86-56. The Bulldogs fall to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
 
Truman went toe-to-toe with the Flyers in the first half with an early 10-4 lead and Brooke Bailey scoring 12 points in the first quarter. Bailey beat the buzzer at half and Truman trailed Lewis by three 35-32.
 
Lewis took flight to start the third and came out of the gate with 10 straight points and never looked back. In the third quarter, Lewis outscored the Bulldogs 27-8 and were 10-of-15 from the field compared to Truman's 4-of-15 total.
 
Two-time GLVC Player of the Year Jessica Kelliher stuffed the stat sheet with 27 points (11-of-16), 10 rebounds and three assists in 33 minutes of action. Tierney Lockett and Rachel Hinders had 13 apiece and the Lewis starters took 51 of the 58 total shots. As a team, Lewis shot 56.9% from the field and made three of their seven three-point tries.
 
Bailey was stuck on 15 points the entire second half after going 5-of-8 with three triples in the first 20 minutes.  Rachel Edmundson added 12. Leading scorer, Katie Jaseckas was held scoreless for the first time in her Truman career and was limited to three field goal attempts in 17 minutes of play.
 
In two other key stats that Truman had had success in this season, rebounds and free throws the Bulldogs found themselves on the short end. Lewis won the glass 45-27 and got to the free throw line by a 26 to eight margin. The Flyers outscored Truman in the paint 56-26.
 
The Bulldogs will look to rebound on Saturday when they visit the University of Indianapolis. The Greyhounds fell at home in overtime to Quincy University 67-59 and sit at 6-6 overall and 0-2 in the league. Tip time is set for 1 p.m. eastern time, 12 p.m. central.
