RECAP: Totta's Triple Clips Cardinals For Fourth Straight Win

Box Score (HTML)

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Sloane Totta saved the day with a three-pointer 26 seconds left in regulation to break a 56-all tie and give the Truman Women's Basketball team their fourth straight win 61-56 over William Jewell College on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs, behind eight points in the second quarter by Remy Davenport, led by seven at the half but watched as the Cardinals quickly erased that lead with a 7-0 run over the first 1:02 of the third.

Truman finished the third on a 13-1 run as Jewell did not make a field goal over the last 8:41 of the quarter.

Davenport's two free throws with 5:39 restored the 12-point lead for Truman but Hayden Butler and Kayla Harrell knocked down consecutive triples and the gap was trimmed to five.

Jewell trimmed the lead down to two with 1:57 left. The Bulldogs had a late shot clock attempt come up short but Katie Jaseckas grabbed the offensive rebound. However Rhyann Fisher swiped the ball out of Rachel Edmundson hands and raced down the court for the tying bucket and drew the foul.

Fisher was strong with her free throw and Totta nabbed the loose ball. Totta stayed up top as the shot clock winded down. Her defender backed off and Totta swished the three for the lead.

Harrell elected to go for two instead of three and missed with Edmundson getting the rebound. She would knock down a pair of free throws to ice the victory.

Totta, Edmundson and Davenport all finished with 10 points to lead the Bulldogs as they grew closer to securing a GLVC Tournament berth. The final GLVC point rating numbers will not be released until after Saturday's games but Truman sits inside the top seven in the eight team field. The Bulldogs clinched no worse than a .500 conference season picking up their ninth league win.

The Bulldogs shot 34% overall and 27% from three and made 23-of-31 (74%) from the free throw line while winning the glass again by double-figures 42-26.

Truman will host Illinois Springfield at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the regular season finale.
