GLVC Unveils 2018 Football Coaches Poll

LEBANON, Ill. – Winners of their final four Great Lakes Valley Conference games to end the 2017 season, the Truman Football team was picked to finish fourth in the annual survey of league coaches at the 2018 GLVC Kickoff Event held at McKendree (Ill.) University on Friday.

University of Indianapolis, who ran the table of conference games last season and finished 11-1 overall with an NCAA playoff appearance, was tabbed to win the league again. The Greyhounds grabbed 49 total points with all but one first-place vote.

Missouri S&T and McKendree were tied for second with 37 points apiece with the Miners receiving the other first-place vote. They both finished 5-2 in the conference and 7-4 overall. The Bulldogs garnered 32 points and were ahead of Southwest Baptist (30), Quincy (17), William Jewell (14) and Lincoln (8).

Truman was represented at the GLVC Kickoff by Head Coach Gregg Nesbitt, entering his ninth year at the helm along with junior linebacker Bryan Edwards and senior offensive lineman Tanner Hageman. Edwards has earned all-conference honors in his first two years on the field and finished the 2017 season with 73 total tackles with four fumble recoveries. Hageman anchored the line at right guard for all 11 games and helped the team average 175.7 yards per game on the ground. The line was in the top 15 in Division II in sacks allowed and third in the GLVC.

The Bulldogs open camp on Monday, August 6 and start the 2018 season at home on Thursday, August 30 against Michigan Tech.
